South West Metal Finishing say goodbye to Dick Herd after 52 years service
The owners and directors of South West Metal Finishing in Marsh Barton in Exeter are extremely proud today to present long standing employee, Dick Herd with a his retirement gift, after having completed a staggering 52 years’ unbroken service. He started working in the company in 1962 when he was around 27 years old. At the time the business was based in Summerland Street in central Exeter. This building was newly built after the original premises were blitzed during WW11. He started his employment as a polisher of bumper bars and head lamps for chrome plating. Dick moved with the business to our current premises in Marsh Barton, and has seen dramatic changes in the business from basic plating of old car parts – to a high tech industrial firm specialising in surface treatment for Aerospace and Engineering . He has also seen and known all three generations of the family who have owned the business: Kenneth Jacobs the founder , his sons Clive and Richard Jacobs –who took it on after him , and now their sons and daughters, Paul, Matthew and Jackie Jacobs – who are the current directors who manage the business with one non family director Kevin Baker. Long service is incredibly important to the company and we are very grateful to Dick for having stuck with South West Metal Finishing for such a long time.
