Dry bead blasting is a technique that involves the operation of propelling, typically with compressed air, a stream of abrasive material to clean ferrous metals such as steel and iron steel as well as rust and removal.

The terminology ‘bead blasting’ can often be known as other blast process names such as sand blasting, shot blasting, grit blasting, abrasive blasting and soda blasting. But a more specific definition of actual ‘bead blasting’ is where the blast cabinet is using either glass or plastic ‘beads’ to alter the substrate surface, leaving an ideal clean surface.
Dry bead blasting provides a clean, uniform surface finish to the component, typically to enhance further processing or painting. It’s effectively used in preparation for bonding, metal spray, protective treatment or subsequent plating operations.
No part shall be abrasively cleaned beyond its dimensional tolerance as specified in applicable drawings or specifications.
